Mission Statement

The Union County Circuit Court Clerk's Office strives to promote a high standard in the Judicial System as we provide courteous and efficient service to the citizens of Union County, judges, attorneys, law enforcement agencies and all the people having business with the Courts.


The Union County Circuit Court Clerk ensures the efficient operation of state courts by maintaining dockets and records, handling administrative matters and serving as goodwill ambassadors to the public. The responsibilities and duties of the Union County Circuit Court Clerk served an important role in the operation of the court system. The clerk attends sessions of court with all the papers in the cases on the docket. The Clerk usually keeps minutes of the Court. That can be done in well-bound book or by electronic format so long as certain rules relating to the safe-keeping of the records are followed. The Union County Circuit Court clerk deals with voluminous paperwork and the storage and retention of documents are important considerations. When a case is appealed from a court of record, the clerk compiles the record needed for the appeal, and it is extremely important that the records of the clerk's office be well organized and accurate.

The Union County Circuit Court clerk maintains the rule docket and execution docket in which all court judgments or decrees are entered in order of rendition by the court and in which all receipts and disbursements in a case are entered. The clerk collects state and county litigation taxes, criminal injuries compensation tax, county expense fees, funds for the impaired driver's trust fund, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation fees, misdemeanant jail per diems, fines, sheriff's fees, clerk's fees, witness fees, judgments, restitution, other taxes and other items of court costs. The clerk prepares bills of costs in cases, account for these monies and make collection efforts when these amounts are unpaid. The Union County Circuit clerk collects fees for their office according to the clerk's fee statute and other applicable statutes.

The Union County Circuit clerk maintains a general ledger to account for and summarize the cash transactions of the office and issue receipts for all collections. The clerk often serves in a fiduciary capacity to invest funds held for third parties. Additionally, the clerk may collect support, including alimony and child support, pursuant to court orders and the general law.

The Union County Circuit clerk also writes and issues state and civil warrants, subpoenas, show cause orders and jury duty notification.
